Sunday 16th March 2003 - 39 Weeks pregnant. One week to go until my EDD. Still feeling great.
Monday 17th March 39 weeks and 1 day pregnant - Debbie (midwife) and Sally (student midwife working along side Debbie) arrived at noon for another scheduled appointment I had thought they were due to visit on Tuesday, so I was surprised to see them. When my blood pressure was measured at 117/78 I was hoping it was due to them arriving while I getting lunch and that I was embarrassed that I had forgotten they were coming. 117/78 isn't normally considered high, however my baseline BP at 7 weeks pregnant was only 100/50, so it was considered high for me.
There was still no sugar or protein traces in my urine and no swelling so I was reassured that things are still okay. Debbie ordered some blood tests to make sure that my kidneys etc were still doing okay.
Joshua was still doing well - his heart beat was 130bpm.
Before they left I asked Sally to re-check my BP as I thought it may have been high since I was a bit flustered when they arrived. It was exactly the same at half an hour earlier though.
I had the blood tests done that afternoon, and went to library to get some books out, and went to bed reading for the rest of the afternoon
Tuesday 18th March went into work for one hour at 7:30am (due to day light savings we woke early) to tidy up last few ends, then went home and rested until car needed picking up from garage mid afternoon, then headed back to bed. I was determined to get the BP down. I hoped that resting would help.
Wednesday 19th March I woke at 4:30am to pee and didn't get back to sleep. I had noticeable swelling hands and right wrist. I waited until 9am to ring Debbie let her know since the swelling was still there. She said she would collect the blood test results and visit me during the morning. I stayed in bed all morning reading.
When Debbie and Sally arrived my BP was up to 126/84. I was really disappointed since I was still feeling great. Most of the bloods came back okay, but a few things were slightly out. The tests would need to be re-run and compared. There was still no sugar or protein traces in my urine, but the high BP and swelling were two of the three signs that Debbie was watching out for. She booked me into a Mother and Foetal Monitoring session at the hospital for Thursday at 2:30pm. We would both be monitored, and the blood works repeated, and possible another scan done to check the fluid level depending on who I saw.
I was in two minds about this appointment first of all it wasn't until tomorrow afternoon, so can't be that urgent. On the other hand it was at the hospital. If something was picked up, we might have a battle to still have our planned home birth. Debbie said that a home birth wasn't ruled out at this stage. That was what I wanted to hear, however I would need to take an over night bag with me to the hospital just I case I needed to be monitored for longer.
After they left I want back to bed beginning to wonder if this was the end of our home birth plans.
I spent the rest of Wednesday in bed reading or online. I finished the second of the library books I'd got out of the library on Monday, so went and saw Fiona next door to borrow another book.
I did some finishing off of some sewing in the evening sewing buttons on, inserting elastic in a waist band etc. I packed over night bag for appointment tomorrow 'just in case', but hoping like hell I was wasting my time.
I suggested to Brendon that we make love on the off chance that things it may start labour. We fell sleep at about 10:40pm.
